The Deliciously Smooth eCommerce Transformation of Bastion Lane Espresso

When coffee is a big part of your life, it’s got to be more than just good; it’s got to be great.

Bastion Lane Espresso delivers the ultimate in freshness and consistent quality: roasting and posting their heavenly coffee from the same building – the 1909 heritage-listed Uki post office in NSW. This ethical, sustainable, big-hearted brand deserved a website that better served their business goals, so we got to work with Roast Master Gary.

The Challenge

Some of the obvious challenges to address were slow site speed and suboptimal conversion performance for such a popular brand. The design also had confusing navigation for an eCommerce website, as well as branding issues with imagery, banners and colours. Many little changes can make such a big difference, so we created a schedule of priorities and commenced work.

The Approach

We performed three audits across the website: assessing design, SEO, and technical performance. One of the most critical updates for this eCommerce website was to improve the Shop and product listing pages. The UX designers and developers worked together to create an improved experience that reflects the quality of the products, and increases conversion to sale.

We also made necessary changes on the website to support a marketing campaign, where the customer is able to choose a complimentary product on the checkout page. A customised plugin allows admin to define the sample product rules (max spend, number of free products, etc) for a more rewarding customer experience.

The Outcome

The maintenance works have resulted in increased conversion to sale, longer page visit duration and lower bounce rates. The website speed and functionality is greatly improved. We have since continued to perform ongoing maintenance on the website to ensure all plugins are up to date and functioning well. The next evolution for Bastion Lane Espresso will be further design updates to match exciting new packaging for their heavenly coffee!
